‘Sperm Whale 2’ hits record sales in Iran

Iranian film ‘Sperm Whale 2’ has become the country’s highest grossing film of all time.

Saman Moqadam’s ‘Sperm Whale 2’ grossed over 200 billion rials ($5.33 million), breaking the record of ‘Patrol 2’, directed by Saeid Soheili, which had become the bestseller in the country with a total sale of 199 billion rials ($5.3 million) earlier this year.

‘Sperm Whale 2’ was released in cinemas across Iran on May 10, reaching the record in 85 days.

The film is a sequel to Moqadam’s ‘The Whale’, which was released in 2015 and became the year’s second best-seller with a total sale of $2 million.

The comedy tells the story of Roya (Mahnaz Afshar), who had dreams of migration to the US, but finally agreed to marry Arjang Senoubar (Reza Attaran) in her homeland.

The cast of the film includes Vishka Asayesh, Reza Naji, Ali Qorbanzadeh, Hesam Navab-Safavi, Sirous Gorjestani, Shahla Riahi, Katayoun Amir-Ebrahimi, Mohsen Qazi-Moradi and Asadollah Yekta.
